There’s nothing quite like the beauty of a simple step sequence. Going back to the beginnings of electronic music in the 1970s with the likes of early Tangerine Dream, that hypnotic progression of precise notes has the power to entrance the listener and invoke the most alien landscapes. In this case, it took me below the waves as each sound demanded a dive further into the depths. Trying to find the right accompaniment for the sequence was something that was surprisingly more difficult than I had anticipated. Ultimately, the sounds needed to have a certain murkiness in order to allow the contrast of the clarity of the sequence to cut through while still creating a convincing backdrop that felt like home.
